Volkswagon Polo Diesel

One of our team members happened to drive the Diesel variant of Volkswagon Polo and here is what he had to say:-

Launched as a premium hatchback, it fails to live up to the tag. The car has a weak pick up and it is a messy drive on hilly areas and in high volume of traffic. The car essentially lags in powere which is why one needs to shift gears constantly. The cabin noise is pretty evident and should have been minimised, considering the amazing feel of its competitor- Hyundai i10. The car is lacking in leg space too at the back, although the seats are comfy. The interiors of the car are nothing much to write home about. And when it comes to pricing, a price tag of INR 5.42 lacs for the base model and INR 6.82 lacs for the high end model is a bit too much considering its weak performance.

Good points:- A safe ride, good handling, comfortable seats, light gearbox
Bad points- Lags power, weak pick up, cramped at the back, unimaginative interiors, high price

Verdict: The Hyundai i10 and i20 are a better buy any day.

Apple I-Pad

First of all, apologies for the delay in coming out with the review of the rockstar gadget in the market- Apple I-Pad. It has been quite a while since I-Pad was launched and slightly lesser since the drawbacks of the gadget were all over the market. There were all sorts of things being said about the I-Pad, from embarrassing remarks viz. the name having a connotation similar to women's utility item (you know what we are refering to) to some intelligent posers like no USB drive et al.

We decided to check it out ourselves to see whether there is any truth to the negative comments being made about the gadget and boy, we were pleasantly surprised when we held the baby in our hands. We call it a baby because it certainly looks very adorable.

Like all things Apple, this one too comes with a sleek and sexy design which lends it the style quotient every youngster looks for in a gadget. But I-Pad is not all about style, it has got some real substance too.

The most outstanding feature of this new boy from the Apple courtyard is its amazing resolution. You have got to be a really really bad photographer for your snaps to look horrible on the I-Pad screen.

And of course, like I-Phone, I-Pad too has amazing touch sensitivity. It responds really quickly and operating it is a cinch, even if you are not a gadget freak. Its extremely sleek design makes it very easy to carry around, which is the primary reason why Apple came out with this product.

If one talks of applications, the best one which we have come across so far is the scribbler. If you are on the move and need to jot down a few important notes but you do not have a pen and a paper, this application can save your day. Apple I-Pad's alternatives for Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office are also at par if not better. However, it will take some getting used to if you have been using Microsoft Word all your life.

On the negative front, one real drawback of this gadget is the fact that third party applications cause the device to crash far too often. In fact, when we loaded some third party applications, it crashed a whopping 20 times within a matter of 10 minutes. So, we would advise restraint when using third party applications on Apple I-Pad.

As for the device having no DVD RoMs or USB ports, it is not really a neccessity. Apple I-Pad was made to give the users easy portability and it fulfills it to the tee. For watching movies and stuff, there is always your bulkier laptop and desktop, isn't it?

We would definitely give the I-Pad a 4 out of 5.

Positives- 1. Extremely sleek and sexy design.
                 2. Easy to operate
                 3. Really portable. You can carry it like a student's notebook.
                 4. Amazing resolution

Negatives- 1. Third party applications do not work properly.
                    2. The name could have been better (this is just an after thought)
